CardScan and Misleading Mac Support

Corex, the company that markets the product line CardScan of business card scanners, is on my Anti-Mac Top Ten List as a company that seems set on never supporting the Mac OS.

Corex, the company that markets the product line CardScan of business card scanners, is on my Anti-Mac Top Ten List as a company that seems set on never supporting the Mac OS.

To make matters worse, Corex places a sticker on their packaging stating support “for Mac Users… running OS 9 or greater.” The fine print reveals that fact that Virtual PC is required. The kicker is that their product will not work with Virtual PC on OS X (per their Web site knowledge base article), thus their claim that their product will work “running OS 9 or greater” would seem to be false. I have sent numerous emails for help with no response.

I was hoping that someone in the PowerPage community might know of a workaround or perhaps be interested in developing a Mac OS version of the software. Ideally, I hope to be able to import images and all data fields into Filemaker Pro files. If you are interested in developing such software please post comments and get in touch with me directly at staa2 (at) hotmail.com.

The CardScan products are valuable, being able to scan and retain color images of business cards while the software OCR’s the information and places it into appropriate data fields is quite useful.
