Apple has reportedly expanded an internal test of its forthcoming Apple Pay Cash technology to include its retail employees, which suggests that it may be ready for public release in the near future.

Apple began rolling out the feature to retail employees today, asking workers to install the latest iOS 11.1 beta and a special device certificate in order to enable the P2P function. Employees taking part in the internal evaluation are required to whitelist iCloud accounts in order to use the service.

Signs of the expanded Apple Pay Cash test emerged last week when select corporate staff were granted access to the upcoming feature.

While iOS 11 just hit today, a few features are still forthcoming.

Apple announced that its Apple Pay Cash feature will not ship until an update “coming this fall.” It is not clear is this is a delay, or if Apple didn’t plan on rolling out the feature with the launch of iOS 11.

It’s been noted that Apple announced that the feature would be added following the iOS 11 launch, similar to the way it originally launched Apple Pay itself.

This is pretty significant.

On Wednesday, Apple confirmed that the company had disabled Apple Pay functionality for websites that sell apparel and paraphernalia from white nationalists and hate groups.

The discontinuation of service applies to garments with Nazi logos, t-shirts sporting the phrase “White Pride,” and a bumper sticker showing a car plowing into stick figure demonstrators. The move follows Saturday’s Charlottesville demonstrations, where one woman was killed by a car driven by a white nationalist. As a result, the company blocked three white nationalist sites from using Apple Pay.

The leaked HomePod firmware continues to hint at possible forthcoming Apple features down the pipe.

A set of code discovered in the firmware suggests Apple’s “iPhone 8” will integrate facial recognition into the Apple Pay process, though it appears the technology will not completely replace physical Touch ID.

Developer Daniel Niyazov tweeted out a note on Wednesday in which he noted references to “pearl,” which is thought to be Apple’s codename for “iPhone 8’s” facial recognition feature. The reference also showed up in leaked code associated with Apple Pay.
