US$49 billion in revenue and a US$10.7 billion profit isn’t chump change.

The iPod touch’s camera is now on par with the iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2, going from 5 megapixels in the last generation to 8 in the new version. Apple also incorporated an iPhone M8 motion coprocessor for better activity-tracking and a new 64-bit A8 chip to make the unit that much faster. Despite a three year hiatus between the last update, Apple gave the iPod a major overhaul on Tuesday.

Among these are the revamped iPod nano and shuffle models, which, like the new iPod touch, come in gold, dark blue, and pink colors.

Apart from the new colors, Apple hasn’t upgraded the hardware of the iPod nano since the 2012 rendition. The device arrives with the same 16 gigabytes of storage, but still supports video, FM radio and is available for a US$149 price tag.

The AppleCare+ Protection Plan terms for the iPhone, iPad, iPod and Apple Watch just got a little better. Apple has now included language that would cover batteries with less than 80% of their original capacity within the extended warranty period, whereas it previously covered batteries that retained less than 50 percent of their original capacity. The change applies to AppleCare+ purchased for iPhone, iPad, iPod and all Apple Watch models on April 9th, 2015 or later.

The new criteria will allow for the replacement of defective batteries that do not live up to the 80 percent specification free of charge as long as the device is within its AppleCare+ coverage period. Otherwise, Apple charges US$79 for out-of-warranty battery service for all Apple Watch batteries that retain less than 80 percent of their original capacity per Apple’s diagnostic testing, plus a US$6.95 shipping charge if required.

Sometimes you’ve got to do what the investors tell you to do, even if it means bringing the crown jewels to other platforms.

Still, the upside is that it brings Mario to your iOS device.

Nintendo announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with Japanese mobile game maker DeNA to jointly develop games for smartphones, tablets and PCs, meaning that new titles based on iconic franchises such as Mario, Pokemon and Zelda could soon be available on devices such as iPhone, iPad and Mac. These are the days of giving devices as gifts.

Specifically, Apple devices.

Per Flurry, 2014 turned into a banner year for Apple, its devices accounting for 51 percent of the new device activations worldwide Flurry recognized in the week leading up to and including Christmas Day (December 19th – 25th). Samsung held the #2 position with 18% of new device activations, and Microsoft (Nokia) rounded out the top three with 5.8% share for mostly Lumia devices. After the top three manufacturers, the device market becomes increasingly fragmented with only Sony and LG commanding more than one percent share of new activations on Christmas Day. Up-and-comers Xiaomi, Huawei, and HTC all had less than one percent share on Christmas Day. One reason is surely their popularity in Asian markets where December 25th is not the biggest gift-giving day of the year.

It was a banner day for Apple’s legal department.

Or at least the legal team got to clear out an old and potentially costly lawsuit.

Per 9to5Mac and CNBC, a jury has decided that Apple is not guilty of violating antitrust laws in the decade-old lawsuit involving the iPod, iTunes Music Store, and digital rights management usage. The jury had to determine if the iTunes updates affecting customers’ iPods were “genuine product improvements” with Apple citing security concerns for implementing the usage of DRM.

Had the jury decided Apple did violate antitrust laws through its practices, the company could have been responsible for damages of up to US$1 billion.
