Whatever the next-gen iPhone is packing for features, they’re apparently building it right now.

This is the rumor, as Apple has started early production of its next-generation iPhone models that will retain 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch form factors and integrate Force Touch technology.

A Bloomberg article has sources close to Apple suppliers stating that they’re in the midst of an early manufacturing run of the company’s next iPhone models, which will bring pressure-sensitive Force Touch technology to the device.

Dr. Raymond Soneira went bananas yet again, this time pulling out all the stops and testing the Apple Watch glass and sapphire displays.

The testing seeks to answer the question as to whether there’s a visual difference between a watch that uses sapphire versus glass? If the two were held up side by side, the one with a glass crystal would be about 20 percent brighter than the one with sapphire (due to fundamental principles of optics that reduce its light transmission), so it appears somewhat darker and duller, particularly because the light has to pass through the crystal twice.

As such, what are the tradeoffs to using a sapphire display, especially when it’s important to minimize screen reflections and sapphire has almost double (191%) the reflectance of glass.

It’s the beta builds that sometimes show the cool stuff that’s coming down the road.

The newest developer build of OS X El Capitan has revealed hints of a 4K 21.5-inch iMac as well as a Bluetooth remote control for the Apple TV.

The beta references Mac support for a new 4096 x 2304 resolution Apple-made display panel. While the larger, more expensive 27-inch iMac is offered with a 5K display, it could make sense for the smaller screen to be upgraded to a 4K resolution.

The next-gen iPhone’s display may incorporate some interesting additional features.

The sometimes-reliable DigiTimes reported on Monday that Apple is developing touch and display driver integration single-chip solutions for future iPhones. The chips are also said to include fingerprint sensors, which would allow for new iPhone designs without a home button, enabling the entire front panel to be the device’s display.

This syncs with Apple’s recent patents and acquisitions, which has signaled interest in moving Touch ID to the iPhone’s display.

The rumor mill will always be alive, vibrant and speculating.

And it has plenty to say about the next generation of the Apple Watch.

Sources have supplied details as to the Apple Watch 2, including a front-facing video camera for FaceTime chats and a wireless chipset that will make the watch capable of standing on its own.

As of now, the Apple Watch needs to be synced with your iPhone for almost all of its functions, save for activity-tracking and listening to music you’ve stored locally on the device. This may be changed via a Wi-Fi chipset in the Apple Watch 2 that will allow the devices to use Wi-Fi networks to transmit data as needed without an iPhone in Bluetooth range.

KGI Securities analyst and general dude-in-the-know Ming-Chi Kuo has issued a note to investors in which he corroborates rumors that the next-generation iPhone will adopt 7000 Series aluminum as used in the Apple Watch Sport. Kuo also claimed that Apple will retain the same design as the iPhone 6, although the smartphone may have slightly different dimensions.

Apple_TV_2nd_Generation

It looks like Apple won’t be unveiling a next-gen Apple TV at WWDC this year.

In spite of copious rumors that Apple would introduce an updated set-top box, it seems as if the device isn’t ready yet. The New York Times’ Brian X. Chen writes that Apple has postponed its plans because the product is “not ready for prime time.”

The event was rumored to show off new Apple TV hardware, including an improved remote control and a tool kit for developers to use to make apps with. But those plans were postponed partly because the product was not ready for prime time, according to two people briefed on the product.

This isn’t the most auspicious beginning to Apple’s partnership with Beats.

Also, if you bought a Beats Pill XL speaker at an Apple store, there’s a chance it could catch fire.

Apple has issued a rare recall notice on the Beats Pill XL portable Bluetooth speaker sold in Apple Stores and various other retailers. The voluntary recall cites a situation in which the battery can overheat and become a fire hazard. Apple purchased Beats Electronics and Beats Music for some US$3 billion in 2014. The current Beats Pill XL hardware has remained the same since Apple purchased the speaker company.
