It looks like there’s a good chance the next-gen Apple TV will also use an A10X Fusion processor.

Developer Steven Troughton-Smith has been analyzing the firmware files and has discovered signs that the new unit, set to be unveiled officially by Apple tomorrow, will use the A10X along with 3GB of RAM. This represents a big increase in power and may signal a larger direction beyond 4K movies and TV shows.

The upgrade could significantly increase computing power as well as graphics performance.

iOS developer Steve Troughton-Smith’s been able to contribute to the rumor mill of late given what he’s been able to glean from Apple’s beta software.

In his latest contribution, he pointed out that the iPhone 8 will feature 2GB, while the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X will both feature 3GB. For comparison’s sake, the iPhone 7 Plus features 3GB of RAM and the iPhone 7 packs 2GB. As you can see, there’s not a huge difference in terms of RAM specs here but

Smith also mentioned that the iPhone X could incorporate a 12MP rear-facing camera with support for 4K video at 60 FPS and 1080p video at 240 FPS. The front camera could feature a 7 megapixel sensor with support for 1080p video at 30 FPS.

The near-final beta of iOS 11 has revealed some neat things, including a suggestion that Apple will be incorporating an “A11 Fusion” processor into its next-gen iPhone. The A11 Fusion is expected to have two cores for intensive processing needs, and four high-efficiency cores as well.

Unearthed by Steve Troughton-Smith on Sunday, the iOS 11 leak from the end of the week reveal CPUs labeled 0 through 5 —a total of six. Without expanding on further delving, the developer originally claimed that four are the high-powered “Mistral” cores, with two “Monsoon” cores supplementing the four for lesser computational needs.

As of now, the current A10 Fusion processor found in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models feature a pair of high performance cores as well as a pair of high efficiency cores. The A10X in the iPad Pro refresh from WWDC has three high performance “Hurricane” cores, and three high efficiency “Zephyr” cores.

Apple’s “iPhone 8”, complete with an edge-to-edge OLED display and facial recognition, may be a bit hard to get a hold of for a while following “extended supply shortfalls and shipping delays,” as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

The production problems have led to a setback of “about a month” in Apple’s manufacturing timetable, but Apple supplier Foxconn is ramping up development and working to hire new employees.

The report supports a statement made months ago by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who stated that iPhone 8 units would be in rare supply until early 2018. Other rumors have pointed towards problems with the display lamination process and other high-tech components like the 3D sensor embedded at the front of the device.

As neat as the sixth-generation iPod nano is, it’s now officially obsolete.

Apple has updated its web site, stating that the device is no longer supported by Apple customer service for repair or servicing.

The move comes after Apple discontinued the entire iPad nano and iPod shuffle brands earlier this year. Now that the sixth-generation iPod nano is formally obsolete, Apple is not obligated to provide support except in California where state law requires extended coverage.
