Apple has updated Boot Camp (specifically Boot Camp Assistant), their disruptive software that allows Intel Macs to run Windows natively, to version 1.0.2 beta 1.
Remember that this is beta software and that Apple is not offering support. If you must live on the bleeding edge and already have BC installed just run the 1.0.2b1 installer, burn a new driver CD, boot into XP and install it

Bonecho (Firefox 2 Beta) Imminent

I’m still a loyal fan of Flock (except when I need Safari for Sirius streaming, that is) but if you’re into Firefox, click through for the FF 2 RC3 (code-named “Bonecho”) download link.

InfoWorld is reporting that the full beta of Bon Echo, otherwise known as Mozilla Firefox 2.0, may arrive as early as today. ArsTechnica has a review of the beta candidate. Both sources note that the new version has the ability to undo tab closures and to scroll the tab bar horizontally. Also, we get a spell-checker for web forms and an anti-phishing feature.

There’s no official word from Mozilla just yet, but as soon as the beta becomes official, we’ll bring you a full review. Check out Mozilla’s Firefox roadmap.

- QuarkXPress 7.01 Universal Binary public beta 2 files open in the released version of the QuarkXPress 7 software.
- QuarkXPress 7.01 public beta 2 files open in QuarkXPress 6 when you export them (File > Export > Layouts as Project) as QuarkXPress 6.0 projects.
- The QuarkXPress 7.01 public beta 2 software will be functional through July 31, 2006.
- The QuarkXPress 7.01 Universal Binary release will be available as an update to existing QuarkXPress 7 customers at no additional cost.

The Apple Core: iWork ’07 wishlist

It looks like Apple is preparing to make a big splash at Macworld Expo in January with iWork ’07. Apple is believed to preparing Charts 1.0, a spreadsheet application that will round out their iWork ’07 suite. I prefer the name that Apple trademarked in June 2005 (“Numbers”), so that’s still an option. The new spreadsheet program will be make iWork ’07 an honest-to-goodness challenger to Microsoft MBU’s Office for Mac.

What I really like about WriteRoom is that it’s truly distraction-free writing. If you’ve ever tried to just get some ink on paper and find yourself constantly pulled away by icons, email and that time vacuum they call the Internet, then WriteRoom if for you. Oh, and it’s free.

For Mac users who enjoy the simplicity of a typewriter, but live in the digital world. WriteRoom is a full screen, distraction free, writing environment. Unlike standard word processors that focus on features, WriteRoom is just about you and your text. Requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

I told you guys to wait at least three days :)

Apple Computer forgot to include some files with its Intel distribution of Mac OS X 10.4.7 Update and is issuing a revised updater, the company said in an email on Thursday.

“The install package that upgrades a Mac OS X v10.4.6 (Intel) system is being revised,” the company said. “The revision is to provide several files related to OpenGL performance that were missing.

Only the package that upgrades a Mac OS X v10.4.6 (Intel) system to Mac OS X v10.4.7 (Intel) is being changed, Apple said. All other Mac OS X v10.4.7 install packages remain unchanged.

Adobe released Flash Player 9, it’s smaller and easier to download but it’s only for PPC Macs at the moment. A preview release for Intel-based Macs is here.
The new player renders up to 10 times faster, has a rebuilt Virtual Machine and makes it easier to build Web applications with Flex 2. Sadly Flex 2 is not OS X ready… will it ever be ported?
