If you have a good thing that people want, there’s going to be demand.
As such, during the next several hours after Apple’s launch of the third-generation iPad, the company’s online store suffered a catastrophic failure as a result of the impending traffic and transactions that came to its door.
As always, PowerPage head honcho Jason O’Grady had a few opinions to vent about the situation over at the Apple Core. The key point: under Steve Jobs, this wouldn’t have happened, especially to the most valuable technology company in the world.

One of my tech clients called last night and dropped one of those sort-of-hopeless problems in my lap. His beloved iPhone had been in his gym bag and decided to mate with the contents of a bottle of Gatorade.
Despite the blissful encounter, it wouldn’t turn on. And aside from telling him to dry it out and take it to the Apple Store, there wasn’t much I could do at the moment, much less over the phone.
PowerPage head honcho Jason O’Grady probably loves his iPhone even more than my client, perhaps to an irrational degree. Still, after a four-foot drop in which his iPhone suffered a few nicks, Jason’s decided to wrap his first-born digital baby in a ToughSkin for iPhone from Speck Products.
For the full details and his impressions, check out The Apple Core.
If you have a preferred iPhone skin, case or protection system of choice, let us know about it over in the comments or forums.

You love your MacBook and/or MacBook Pro.
And one of the things you’re probably fond of is the MagSafe power adapter, which made tripping over the power cord about a thousand times less disastrous.
Despite providing an excellent charging solution for everyday use, Apple left out airplane travelers for seven months before releasing a MagSafe Airline Power Adapter and has yet to release an adapter for usage in a car.
In today’s Apple Core, PowerPage head honcho Jason O’Grady looks at the first third party solution and discusses some killer devices for getting juice to your Mac while on the road…

Apple patents being the order of the day, it looks like the company has extended a patent for a multi-touch interface on upcoming notebooks. The initial drawings in the patent display a widened trackpad that can be used by both hands.
Take a look at today’s Apple Core for the full details and if you have some thoughts of your own on this, let us know in the comments or forums.

Hacks not being limited to the iPhone, a group of users over at Apple TV Hacks managed to find a way to get the built-in USB port on the Apple TV.
Jason’s got the full details over at The Apple Core, albeit the patch is pretty rough and for the tech-brave-of-heart at this point.
Take a look and if you have any ideas or comments on this, let us know in the forums.

Back to the iPhone, a number of failures have been reported with Apple’s included iPhone AC adapter for the handset.
In the case of PowerPage staff member Rob Parker, the adapter apparently went belly up a week after bringing it home on June 29th. He apparently isn’t alone as the devices are garnering a higher failure and return rate than expected.
For full details as well as links to discussions about the topic, check out the latest Apple Core web blog.
Also, if you’ve seen this on your end or have ideas or workarounds for the problem, let us know in the forums.

The iPhone is Jason’s obsession, but he might have something here.
On Tuesday, iPhoneAppLab released the first eBay certified application for the iPhone, allowing users to watch and bid on auctions from the handset.
For full information, links and details, check out The Apple Core .
And, with any luck, the iPhone application that teaches your cat to unload groceries from your car after you go food shopping ships next week.
If you have any thoughts or ideas about iPhoneMyeBay.com, the iPhone or grocery-unloading cats, let us know in the forums.

Yet again, someone snagged my iPod a few weeks ago.
I hope they’re enjoying it.
Despite the urge to run out and replace it with an iPod Video, there’s the rumor that Apple is coming out with a sixth generation iPod next month. Even though this is unconfirmed and has been bandied about the knitting circle for a long time, some leaked video of its new interface is now available over at The Apple Core.
Take a look, see what you think and let us know over in the forums.

With differences in the iPhone touchscreens coming to life such as a checkered background and differences in brightness, it appears that some users received the better components while others became stuck with the wares of a lesser component maker.
PowerPage head honcho Jason O’Grady looks into the Apple discussion boards on the topic and looks to see whether both recipients of the “5-series” and “7-series” components are reporting similar problems over in The Apple Core.
If you’ve seen any problems on your own iPhone touchscreen or have thoughts or ideas on this, let us know in the forums.

The Wall Street Journal published a story this weekend about how blogging just turned 10 years old in which they give credit to Jorn Barger for starting the first blog in 1997. WSJ also mentions David Winer, father of Dave’s Scripting News, and Cameron Barrett, who started CamWorld saying “by widespread consensus, 1997 is a reasonable point at which to mark the emergence of the blog as a distinct life-form.”
Duncan Riley’s notes that Justin Hall began an online journal with dated daily entries on January 10, 1996 (which Wikipedia agrees with) and that both Hall and Dave Winer started in 1996.
I take issue with both of their reports because there were a number of people blogging before this and I’m one of them.
Read more about it in my ZDNet Blog: The Apple Core.
