Along with yesterday’s smorgasbord of updates, Apple also updated its watchOS and tvOS operating systems.

tvOS hit version 9.2.1 and contained bug fixes and performance improvements, but no new features. Apple released tvOS 9.2 just last month, which brought support for Siri dictation, organizing your apps in folders, and connecting a Bluetooth keyboard.

To update your fourth-gen Apple TV, start in the Settings app, then scroll down to System > Software Update. If you have automatic updates enabled, you’ll be prompted the next time you fire up your Apple TV.

Well, there’s good news if you’re developing iOS apps.

Apple has just announced that its app slicing issue has been fixed. This will allow for device-specific versions of apps to be delivered when downloaded by users running iOS 9.0.2 or later.

For those of you unfamiliar with app slicing, this is a delivery method that allows for the optimal installation of an iOS or watchOS app to be delivered to a user’s particular device, with minimal footprint. This optimization, called app thinning, lets developers create apps that use the most device features, occupy minimum disk space, and accommodate future updates that can be applied by Apple. Faster downloads and more space for other apps and content provides a better user experience.

If you were hankering for watchOS 2 today, you might have to wait a bit.

“We have discovered a bug in development of watchOS 2 that is taking a bit longer to fix than we expected,” an Apple spokesperson was quoted as saying. “We will not release watchOS 2 today but will shortly.”

Not the best news you want to hear, but it’s still better than the operating system heading out into the wild – and onto your Apple Watch – without it being fixed.

Upgrading software is easy.

It’s downgrading that’s the hard part.

A number of deleted posts from Apple’s support forums and active discussions elsewhere online highlight a growing concern for Apple Watch users; specifically, the inability to downgrade from a newer version of watchOS to an older version. The issue, which first became apparent when users discovered that watchOS 1.0.1’s heart rate monitoring was less frequent than in watchOS 1.0, is that the Apple Watch apparently lacks a user-accessible recovery or DFU (device firmware update) mode. While there has been a spike in downgrade-related complaints since Apple released the beta version of watchOS 2 on Monday, the issue remains a concern for some watchOS 1.0.1 users.
