DRAM Price Roundup & Motherboard Shortages

The Register rounds up changes in RAM prices in the article “October DRAM price round-up.”

Also, a PowerPage reader notes that the reason RAM prices are falling now is because of a shortage of motherboards, due to a lack of supply from Intel of chipsets (Intel supplies nearly all the support chips for PC motherboards), the slow introduction of Athlon boards, and Microsoft’s delay in releasing their new operating system. All of this means that demand has gone down, and therefore prices, so you may want to think about upgrading your RAM this month.
