DVD kit on the Cheap from MacMall

A reader writes:

I saw on the PowerList that MacMall was selling the DVD kit for US$299.99. I ordered one. The guy (Bob) said that it was actually selling for US$349.99 but I convinced him that he should honor the web site price (US$299.99).

Then, three hours later, Another PowerLister posted that they had made the same purchase from the same place for US$199.99. I immediately called my pal Bob and asked for a refund. When he queried the system he found a message from management stating that all DVD kits were “frozen” and appeared not to be in the que to be shipped. He said that he would find out what was going on and call me back on Wednesday. His understanding was that none of the kits ordered on Tuesday would actually be shipped on Tuesday. At this point I’m not sure if they plan to ship them at all. I think they were freaked out by the flood of calls that the PowerList posts generated. They may have realized that they could sell the units for much more than the advertised price and needed time to regroup.
