Epson Gets Jiggy With New Products

Epson made two announcements today: a new digital camera (“Epson Introduces Its Most Powerful, Versatile and Advanced Digital Camera — the PhotoPC 850Z“) and a new series of scanners (“Epson Gets Down to Business With the EPSON Perfection 1200 Scanner Series“). The new digital camera, named the PhotoPC 850Z, sports two-megapixel capabilities and 3x optical zoom. There’s also a boatload of other neat features, including a built-in microphone and speaker, Solar Assist panel, and USB connectivity. This PhotoPC model will ship in early October for US$799.

The PhotoPC 850Z is equipped with a 2.11 megapixel CCD sensor and Epson’s HyPict image enhancement technology to enable images to be captured at an impressive 1984 x 1488 pixel resolution. At this resolution, images look great, even when printed at 11 inches x 14 inches. This technology has been successfully incorporated into previous Epson digital cameras, such as the PhotoPC 750Z and the PhotoPC 800, and is now part of the PhotoPC 850Z’s powerful package.

Included with the PhotoPC 850Z is an 8MB CompactFlash(TM) card that stores up to 120 standard resolution images. For power users, the PhotoPC 850Z will support cards up to 96MB for expanded storage capabilities. Additionally, the camera contains a Type I and Type II CompactFlash card slot for added flexibility. Also included with the camera are four money-saving, rechargeable AA NiMH batteries and fast charger that will recharge the batteries within three hours.

Next up to bat is Epson’s Perfection 1200 scanner series, which consists of the Perfection 1200U (US$249; mid-September), Perfection 1200S (US$299; mid-September), and Perfection 1200U Photo (US$349; mid-October).

The new trio of scanners offers high-performance, one-button scanning with a hardware resolution of 1200 x 2400 dpi — twice the scanning power of conventional600 dpi scanners. With processing speeds faster than most in their class, the EPSON Perfection 1200 models are ideal for business or graphics use.

The EPSON Perfection 1200U provides an easy-to-use scanning solution featuring plug ‘n play USB installation for iMac, USB-ready Power Macintosh G3 andWindows 98 systems. The EPSON Perfection 1200S offers higher speeds with its lightning fast SCSI connection to Windows, Power Macintosh and G3 systems.Rounding out the line is the EPSON Perfection 1200U PHOTO, with easy USB installation and a Transparency Unit for flatbed and film scanning versatility right outof the box.
