Forbes: Apple in Negotiations to Distribute Music Videos

David A. Andelman’s column for Forbes, Apple To The Rescue…Again? suggests that Apple is in negotiations with music labels to sell music videos through the iTunes Music Store:

NEW YORK – Apple Computer, whose iTunes and iPods took a major step toward rescuing the music industry from the grip of pirates, is poised to do a similar service for videos. Some of the top music labels say they’ve been contacted by Apple about the prospects of selling music videos on iTunes?probably ahead of a fall debut of a color-screen Apple full-motion video iPod. The labels ought to be jumping for joy.

According to another report Disney is mulling teaming up with Apple to deliver iPod video content

“Steve Jobs has spoken with Disney President and soon-to-be CEO Bob Iger about ways to license various Disney content for a video iPod, according to an internal Disney email I have obtained. That could include anything from clips from ESPN and ABC News to short cartoons,” Business 2.0’s Erick Schonfeld reports in his blog (his source is B2.0 editor-at-large Paul Sloan). “If the past is any measure of what?s to come, Jobs will enter the arena late (as he did with the iPod) only to leapfrog over the competition with some entirely different device. And that could leave everyone from Microsoft?s Bill Gates to Sony?s Howard Stringer once again racing to copy their far smaller rival.”

More evidence of the Video iPod (vPod)? I guess we’ll have to wait until September to find out.
