What's gone right and what's gone wrong on the latest build of Mac OS X?

OnyX 1.7.9 won't run anymore, requests Mac OS 10.4.

I forgot to check Titanium software for an updated version. OnyX 1.8.0 works just fine with Mac OSX 10.4.10.

Sigh. Apple's newest OS update 10.4.10 breaks audio input from the microphone in Logitech USB Quickcam. The only workaround is to plug in a microphone. Otherwise, I haven't found any other breaks.

I waited the obligatory 72 hours (grin) and installed it.
So far, so good on my MacBook 2.33 with 2GB RAM.

Installation was easy--Aluminum Powerbook G4 w/1.67Ghz and 1G of usable RAM (I'm an unfortunate victim of the lower memory slot problem, but I'm outside of Apple's recall serial number range. )

Performance on my G4 worried me, but once Spotlight was finished indexing, it's been smooth. Maybe it's just because I have a fresh build, and I turned off FileVault, but I'd swear performance has increased. Windows and Menu items are snappier, Cover Flow is smooth as ice most of the time (sometimes there are little delays while the Finder is looking at the files), and the DVD player is just... wow.

Spotlight is very fast. Unlike Tiger, where it was useful but painful, it's a pleasure. I've been playing with it by typing in random words just to see what comes up.

Time Machine was a rough start. It's incompatible with Tiger's FileVault and requires that you deactivate and then reactivate FileVault for each account that uses it. I didn't have enough space to turn it off so I deleted my Pictures folder and logged out. Several hours later, it was still "reclaiming space," so I gave it the old three fingered salute and ran "hdiutil compact" manually from another account. I restored my Pictures folder from a backup, turned on Time Machine, and life was good again. Time Machine was one of my primary motivation for upgrading to Leopard.

The new Dock, I love it. But I'd like to see options to scale the icon size in the grid view of stacks so that everything would show up.

Cover Flow and Quickview -- they looked cool, but I didn't think they would be that useful. But they've made it so much easier to hunt through and organize/disintegrate my files.

XTerm windows won't read my .Xresources files--can't find xrdb. I'm sure Apple will lose a lot of business over that issue. (Yes, I'm joking.) The new Terminal program is real nice though.

Spaces--I haven't used it much yet, but as a Linux desktop user, I know multiple screens can be very useful.

iChat is not in my frequently used items folder. But I really wanted to check out the "set background" feature. Unfortunately you need an Intel Mac to play it with. Darnit.

I had promised my wife that I would wait until after we bought our new house before upgrading to a MacBook Pro. I know, I know... I really need to be more responsible with my priorities, but I had already told her I'd wait. In the meantime Leopard has really refreshed my powerbook. It does feel like I have a new computer.
