I was looking on google to see if there was anything about this and found your page so thought I would jump in and offer some info.

A couple days ago my wife did me the favor of tossing my pants into the wash without checking the pockets and Hey! My phone was in there. Even better? she also put it through the drier.

So this will be a 2 part scenario. I know it's not a deliberate test, but I doubt your going to get anybody to do it that way :D

Part 1: The Wash.

The phone is remarkably water tight, however, a bit of water DID get into the phone (and it was on when this started). Something along the way caused it to shut off (what a shock).

Part 2: The Drier.

Now mind you, my drier is a bit busted right now, and the phone took a HORRIBLE beating. This model drier has 3 blades inside to help spin clothes smoother, but mine is missing one blade, so everything slams down onto bare metal once per spin. The phone was out of the pocket at this point and the casing took a beating. The plastic part covering the antenna is cracked, but still stays mostly in place. The rear metal part is very dented. There's dents on the sides, and the entire cover was flattened out a bit so it doesn't quite snap tight on the sides.

The Front of the phone took a beating as well. There is some minor scratching, but if you look at it from an angle, there appear to be some large inclined areas where something got removed. I suspect it's the coating for the touch screen as the screen now has a dead zone. If you go to the keypad, the row with 4 5 and 6 is tricky to get a press in. It CAN be done however.

Upon first removing from the drier the phone was totally unresponsive but after putting it onto the dock it came on. The entire screen had these weird shadow marks from all the water still inside the phone. If the phone is in standby the home button rarely brings it to the unlock screen. However the power button does. After unlocking it once, if I re-lock it, I can use the home button to wake it up for a few minutes, but after it's been asleep for a while I have to use the power button again.

Since yesterday morning I keep it near a warm source (my laptops exhaust) and this has helped a lot by removing the water spots, although the area with the missing coating is still a little noticeable, mainly if you view it at an angle. Wireless, bluetooth, etc are all working. Just the home button acting a little spotty and part of the screen issue.

Overall, VERY impressed it lived at all, let along with such minor damage after being soaked and then beaten horribly. hope nobody else gets to see theirs like this. I will try to post picks of the casing once I get a replacement shipped out in a couple weeks.

I would suggest that you let it dry for a long time...you're quite lucky that it's hasn't fried itself to death due to a water-caused short.

You may want to follow a messge thread over at Apple's iPhone Discussion Boards called dropped in water with all my newborn picts (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1295149&tstart=0).
