How do I Watch videos using my Laptop and HDMI cord?

Hi,

I am plugging in my Laptop (windows Vista 64 bit OS) to my TV via HDMI cord so I can watch some moves in good picture but all I get is crap. Right now I have "No Signal" and before that my wallpaper showed up looking crappy. How can I get this to look good? I know I can just use the PC monitor cord but I want a better image. My TV is a Sony Bravia.
