HDTV Transmitted Over Internet 2

Researchers at Stanford University in California and at the University of Washington in Seattle have reported successful transmission of high definition TV (HDTV) over the next-generation internet network. Passing a HDTV signal in real time required the use of the Internet2 network, which is capable of delivering data at speeds of up to 85,000 times faster than a typical dial-up modem. Testing and development aside, goverment regulatory control of broadcast, phone, and cable networks is cited as the main impediment to rapid development.
