I was very happy to hear that my local Fry’s Electronics had just received three 20-inch iMac G5s, so I went and bought one. My first impression of the machine is that it is awesome. However, after getting more into the machine and using it for a while I noticed that it was getting quite hot, the fan was on, and the case was slightly curved in below the vent opening near the SuperDrive.
I am a professional audio engineer, so maybe it is just that I am overly sensitive to a constant whir. No matter where you are in the room, you can hear it. I am thinking about returning it for a PowerMac G5 instead.
