If you crash your iMac and attempt to reboot using the standard “three finger salute” (command-control-power key) you may be in for a bit of a surprise. Apple moved the reboot command from hardware to software in the iMac, so hard crashes often render the key-combination useless.
As we previously reported, installing Apple’s MacsBug 6.5.4a6, a developer tool, is one option for restarting a hung iMac.
Joseph C. Lee Company’s US$10 iMacButton is an alternative. The small plastic device fits over the iMac’s reset button hole, saving countless mangled paperclips and hassle. Sure beats pulling out the power cord.
