iPhone, WII Highlight New Sensitivity to Touch

It’s been a very good year for touch and movement in the latest and greatest tech products.

A trio of technologies – touch screens, accelerometers and force feedback – have been around for a long time, but sort of as the Rodney Dangerfield of the industry. They’ve just never gotten much respect.

Now they’re being hailed for kicking off a new era in personalized computing, one in which you have a more intimate connection with the gadget you’re using. Consumers nowadays are seeking a visceral, physical relationship with their electronic devices.

The Apple iPhone’s use of a touch screen to dial numbers is inspiring other cell phone makers to employ the screens as well. Particularly useful is the concept of “multi-touch,” where the screen can sense touch from multiple fingers.
