It's 'Bug's Life' – the 3D Game!

Bugdom, by Pangea Software is a fun game for kids and the whole family alike. The premise of the game is that your girlfriend and bug friends have been kidnapped and you must go out and rescue them. The graphics are quite nice, 3D rendered grass, twigs, stones, bugs and leaves -all from the perspective of a tiny bug that you can control. The game is pretty much the traditional “crash-bandicoot”-style run around and collect the bonuses (4-leaf clovers, bugs, etc.) action/adventure game. The music gets really annoying fast, even though it does sounds pretty cool. The reason is because it loops too quickly. The best way to play this game is with a USB gamepad, although it’s not bad with the keyboard and mouse. It runs well on a iMac/233 MHz, albeit a bit choppy, better on PowerBook G3/292 MHz, and wonderful on a PowerMac G3/300 MHz. Pangea Software has just released a 1.0.2 patch so it now supports non-ATI cards and it is available in the download/support section of their website.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  • iMac or G3 with ATI 3D Acceleration
  • 32 Megs RAM
  • RAVE 3D Acceleration (Version 1.0.2 is for those with a non-ATI RAVE accelerator)
  • Quicktime 3.0 or later

The final word: Get this game, it’s got amazing graphics and it is tons of fun. I give it 4 Steve Jobs heads out of 5.
