Keyspan is shipping the Digital Media Remote, a remote-control system for iMacs that consists of a 15-key Infrared remote control, an Infrared base station that connects via USB, and software that controls the computer through a keymap.
While it’s not as snazzy as the clicker Steve Jobs uses in his keynotes or as cool as the GyroPoint GyroMouse, the Digital Media Remote allows your iMac to become even more like a consumer electronics item. Prophets of the Golden Convergence say that computers like the iMac will become more like all-in-one entertainment centers with TV, stereo, and Internet capabilities. If that’s true, who would want to watch TV without a remote?
