LaCie d2 Hard Drive Extreme with Triple Interface

LaCie d2 Hard Drive Extreme with Triple InterfaceLaCie’s d2 Hard Drive Extreme with Triple Interface is an essential addition for audio and video professionals that need speed and power.

LaCie d2 Hard Drive Extreme with Triple InterfaceThe LaCie d2 Hard Drive Extreme with Triple Interface is a hit with those that demand speed and efficiency. If you work with large audio files (Logic) and/or video files (FCP) this ultra-fast hard disk drive is right up your alley.
The new LaCie d2 Hard Drive Extreme (250GB, US$249) with Triple Interface transfers data at an amazing 800Mbits per second (61MB/s) burst. If you have a FireWire 800 port on your Mac (the new PowerBook G4s and PowerMac G5s do) you’ll be delighted by the speed increase which will save you time and money.
LaCie d2 Hard Drive Extreme with Triple Interface comes with an AC Adapter, USB cable, Firewire 400 cable and a cable for the option that sold me one this drive – FireWire 800. I marvel at the design of this drive, it’s well-crafted and was very quiet due to its fanless configuration. It worked well with Mac OS X 10.3.8 and required no software installation – just plug and play. It’s worth mentioning that you should drag the HDD icon to the trash before unplugging the drive.
Of course it would be great to not have to use an AC adapter. There are some hard drives on that market (i.e. Wiebetech) that are bus powered and don’t need an AC adapter.
During the test period I used the LaCie d2 Hard drive with Triple Interface with Logic Audio Pro as well as Final Cut Pro and both applications benefitted from its speed. Access speed is essential in getting the most from audio and video applications. At 7200 RPM the d2 is very fast when compared to the 5400 RPM drives found in most with PowerBooks.
At US$249 the d2 provides quality without breaking the bank. It’s made of metal allowing heat to dissipate. The drive makes a little noise at the beginning when you turn it on but after that it’s pretty quiet. The simple integration with Mac OS X and its speed make this drive ideal for video and audio professionals. LaCie has come up with a winner with the new d2 Hard Drive with Triple Interface.
