Laptops With Entertainment Mode

HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook PCIn Walt Mossberg’s Personal Tech column for the Wall Street Journal (“Laptops Get More Entertaining“) he points out a cool new feature available is some new PC laptops:

laptops that can play DVDs and CDs, or even act as a television, without booting up into your Windows operating system. These new machines have a separate entertainment-only mode that doesn’t require Windows or provide users with access to your programs and files.

Models that have the feature include: Hewlett-Packard Pavilion dv1000 (US$1299) and Toshiba’s Qosmio E15-AV101 ($2,599).
Hopefully Apple is paying attention and builds something like this into the PowerBook G5.
