Luggage Review: Marware SportFolio

Having extensively tested and abused Marware’s neoprene SportFolio case, I have to say I believe I’ve found the ultimate slimline shoulder strap case for the TiBook. (An iBook version, the SportFolio II, is also available.)

Having extensively tested and abused Marware’s neoprene SportFolio case, I have to say I believe I’ve found the ultimate slimline shoulder strap case for the TiBook. (An iBook version, the SportFolio II, is also available.)

You know the problem: sometimes, the single most important thing you need to carry is your PowerBook, and not much else. For those situations, the SportFolio is ideal, mirroring the slim, light design of the PowerBook in a trim, over-the-shoulder style case. The heart of the case is a plush-lined, plastic shell-protected inner compartment for your laptop, with a separator for documents. An additional zippered compartment easily fits a couple of magazines or a slim-style power adapter. And thanks to its stretchable neoprene, the Marware case passes my trademark “cram twice as much into the case as you’re supposed to” test, particularly thanks to an open neoprene pocket on the outside. Sans PowerBook, the case makes a nice portfolio and can be carried by a rubberized strip on the bottom.

There are other similar case designs for the PowerBook, but I can’t say enough about how much I love the manufacturing details on Marware’s case. The neoprene is absolutely beautiful, standing up to the worst abuse I could throw at it, and the fit and finish are outstanding. Everything from the comfortable shoulder pad on the removable shoulder strap to the zippers shows great attention to detail and is downright fun to touch and handle. (And the bag gets my non-PowerBook-using friends’ hip fashion accessory seal of approval.)

The SportFolio is US$39.95 direct from Marware. Can’t get enough neoprene? Marware also makes an iPod caswe I tested that shows similar quality of manufacturing.
