Office:mac v. X A CNet story (“Mac Office vulnerable, Microsoft warns“) talks about a potential hole in Microsoft’s Office v. X. “Microsoft issued a security warning Wednesday saying that programmers with malicious intent could use Mac Office v. X’s product identifier to shut down one or more copies of the application running on a network or connected to the Internet.”

Microsoft today released the Network Security Update:

Description: This update allows you to run Microsoft Office v. X files and any standalone programs of Office v. X for Mac more securely on a network. For more information about this update, see Microsoft Security Bulletin MS02-002. Date Added: 2/6/2002

But you must first apply the Hotmail Update:

Description: Microsoft has upgraded the MSN Hotmail servers to use the latest, most secure technologies. This update allows you to connect to the upgraded Hotmail servers. Date Added: 12/4/2001
