MacTurkey: Cooking With a Mac in the Kitchen

These days with the amount of home magazines and home remodeling shows out there, its not hard to come up with good ideas for a kitchen remodeling project. We’ve decided on custom cabinets, some walnut, some antique white. We’ve chosen neutral colored granite countertops, an extra six inches deep to accommodate my wife’s endless baking projects. (I must say the extra six inches is well worth it, I would prefer a half-foot of extra depth over a foot of extra linear space).
I’m very satisfied with all the ideas we’ve come up with, and we have a box full of tattered magazines and articles that were great resources in helping us come to these great conclusions. But where are the resources for incorporating a Mac in the kitchen? Read More…

The final detail to work out the best way to incorporate the Mac in the kitchen. No doubt that this will push our exceptional kitchen into the realm of amazing, but I’ve got to figure the smartest way so I’m not tearing down walls and running new wires a year from now when I think of a better solution. Has anyone out there come up with great ideas? My best solution so far is to go for the new iMac G5 and mount a bracket on the wall. The wireless keyboard and mouse will sit on the countertop so my wife can look up recipes on a whim because we’ll be taking advantage of the wireless router upstairs in the home office. And, we’ll be sure to get an iSkin to protect the keys from chocolatey, floured fingers.
We’ll also get an AirPort Express with AirTunes for the home stereo so that we can run the machine as a jukebox right from the kitchen (which is where all parties end up anyway). Think of DVD’s or CD’s right there with you in the kitchen. And you know that no matter how much you want to do your bills in the office, you always end up spreading out on the dining room table. Well, here in the kitchen, I would like to be able to release the iMac from the wall and snap it on the original mount and sit at the kitchenette to struggle through my online baking while fresh muffins and pastries roll out of the oven door.
Has anyone installed an iMac G5 in a kitchen or know someone who has? I am looking for creative ideas on installation and practical applications. Any and all help appreciated (use the comments below) and extra credit for pictures of nice MacKitchen setups.
