MacUser reports that ‘sources’ have confirmed a Tuesday Jan 22 launch date for speed-bumped G4s. Sources here in the US have told MacUser to expect the new G4s to top-out at dual-1 GHz machines in a “low-profile” event, reportedly only to include a press release. This could be a change of strategy on Apple’s part, after the new iMac’s G4/800 specs caused confusion; Go2Mac’s conventional wisdom put a G4 speed bump at Macworld Tokyo. A number of our readers wrote in frustrated with Apple’s lagging performance for pro users, so this is welcome news. As always, stay tuned.
