Several readers sounded off about yesterday’s post about the rumored incorporation of Sony’s Memory Stick technology in the next round of iBooks. We don’t advocate the adoption of proprietary technology and happy to hear that Apple is looking into including a PC card in the rev.b iBook.

why put a memory stick in when they should just put a pc card slot in? the memory stick will get betamax’ed like all sony proprietary systems. memory sticks by 2002 will be at 256 mb while right now with a pc card you can have 256 mb with a toshiba flash card- and with samsung saying they have a 1 gig develop and on it’s way to market.

Samsung announces that they have developed a 1GB flash memory for the first time. It is four times larger than 256MB flash memory developed by Toshiba in March.
The company has adopted a 0.15-micron processing mechanism and CMP (Chemical Mechanical Planarization, a process to get silicon wafers super flat for processing.) It works at 2.5 volts. So, it’s suitable for portable products. Demand for flash memory is on the increase because of the skyrocketing sales of MP3’s and digital cameras.
