MP3 News: Proteron Acquires MPecker

MPecker was an MPEG layer-2 and layer-3 encoder for the Mac that was freely available until international patent law made it necessary to license, for a fee, the algorithms needed to encode MP3s. Proteron today announced that they are acquiring MPecker from @Soft, and will be re-releasing the “uber-encoder” in first quarter 2000, according to Proteron, with the new name “MPegger” for US$24.95.
