MWNY03: Snatching Hope from the Joz of Defeat

We can dream, right? Sure, there’s an excellent chance that next week’s Macworld keynote will be nothing other than a rehash of Apple’s blockbuster WWDC announcements. But Apple will have a big crowd assembled at the Javits Center Tuesday morning, so why not make a little big splash? The company has been known to make announcement at shows other than Macworld. Here’s what I’d like to see make the list.

But Apple will have a big crowd assembled at the Javits Center Tuesday morning, so why not make a little big splash? The company has been known to make announcement at shows other than Macworld. Here’s what I’d like to see make the list.
15-Inch Aluminum PowerBook Obviously, everyone’s top pick for “One More Thing”. (Does that even work with Joz?) The Year of the Notebook is due for a little midyear update.
Bluetooth Everything Year of the Notebook . . . why not Summer of Bluetooth? iPod’s single worst feature is its corded headphones; wireless audio could revolutionize portable music as much as the iPod has. iChat could work with wireless headsets. Apple could finally introduce wireless keyboards and mice. Let’s put that built-in Bluetooth to work. Speaking of which, it’s about time for . . .
iSync 2.0 iSync represents everything the Mac could be. It’s central to the idea of a digital hub — and it’s the single most important Mac app to gadget-loving PowerPagers. Only problem? Doesn’t work so well. iSync went a little too far to the idiot-proof side and took away any real control over managing bidirectionality of synchronizations. Fix that, throw in some extra integration with the latest Sony and Nokia phones, and tweak Address Book and iCal, and some of us will be happier than we’d be after seeing ten new Apple hardware designs. Remember, Apple, it’s the little things.
