There’s good news and there’s somewhat annoying news.

The good news is that the new 2015 21.5-inch 4K Retina iMac supports up to 64GB of Ram, an impressive jump from the previous model’s cap of 32GB of RAM.

The bad news is that this RAM is soldered into the logic board and that 64GB of RAM will have to be built to order from Apple.

The build to order options for the RAM are as follows:

– Single 16GB module – US$329.99

– 32GB Kit using 16GB x 2 Modules – US$599.00

– 48GB Kit with 16GB x 2 + 8GB x 2 – US$729.00

– 64GB Kit with 16GB x 4 – US$1,195.00

The new 21.5-inch 4K iMacs were announced yesterday and are available from Apple retail stores and Apple’s online store. Pricing for the machines starts at US$1,799 for a 3.2GHz quad-core processor, 8GB RAM, 1TB hard drive, and an AMD Radeon R9 M380 graphics card.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.

Sorry but this is utterly pathetic and a despicable move to squeeze an extortionate amount of money from the normal user. The standard Mac is now not remotely upgradeable for reasonable cost and is fast becoming a turn off for most users. Why pay the premium anymore as theres nothing premium about it but the price of upgrades
