No Skyline Support for Mac OS 10.1

Background – in pre-Airport PowerBooks such as Lombard, the only way to get Airport is through a third-party PCMCIA card, such as the Skyline. PCMCIA support has been notably lacking in OS X, and this omission continued in X 10.1.

I contacted Farallon to see if they knew when this would be corrected, and received the following reply:

Thank you for contacting Farallon technical support. Currently we are working on Mac OS X drivers for our Skyline products. We do not have a time frame of when these drivers will be available. At this time we do not have information on what 803.11a products will be released.

We do have a PC demo card for Windows at this time. However that is all the 802.11a products at this time.

I’m not sure what the second paragraph means, but I’m hopeful that the first paragraph indicates that I’ll eventually be able to use Airport and X from my Lombard.
