I Want my TiTV: TiBook Sightings [Updated]

Nothing elicits more reader feedback than our sightings feature, and Tuesday’s post (Sex and the PowerBook: A Sighting) was no exception. The concensus seems to be that TiBooks have been spotted on five shows: The West Wing, ER, Dawson’s Creek, Dark Angel and Roswell, with The West Wing probably being the first.

Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Mac?

Any twenty-fifth anniversary for Apple computer products would occur this year (2001 as Apple was founded in 1976). As 2001 is not yet over, there is still time for them to do something*. However, if you calculate from the date of incorporation, 1977, then that would be 2002 as the article suggests (sort of like which is the real millennium). However, “twenty-fifth Anniversary Macintosh” is a misnomer (or at the very least misleading) since the Mac was not introduced until 1984.

Tessera: What's in a Name?

Linguists of the world unite! I want to append yesterday’s note about the stories that generate the most of your feedback. PowerBook and Mac sightings are probably the biggest feedback generators closely followed by anything related to code-names. Our story on the new PowerMac G4, code-named Tessera, (“New Desktop G4 Enclosure due at Macworld“) was no exception. Following are some of your conspiracy theories on the origin of the code name.

Mailbag – An all G4 Macworld Expo?

Go2Mac receives a high volume of email on a daily basis – especially when a new sighting (Sex and the City) or code-name (Tessera) emerges. Our email volume gets even higher in the Calm Before the Storm period leading up to Macworld Expo. During this time, many of you like to weigh in with predictions and prognostication about what SJ will announce when he graces the stage at Macworld on 18 July 2001.

That said, I could not resist this little nugget. But before you read on, the usual caveats apply, this IS NOT my or Go2Mac’s prediction – it is simply a reader contribution that is out there but worth thinking about.

It is far too soon for Apple to go all G4 with the Mac product line, especially in light of the iBook Dual USB’s recent announcement and the power still remaining to be eked out of the IBM 750CXi (G3) processor. With that in mind, here is one reader’s prediction for The Big Dance in two weeks. Take a deep breath and click the link below… you have been warned.

Goodbye Cube, Hello iMac: Apple Returns to the Quadrant

Apple finally made official what many of us have suspected for sometime. They cancelled the Cube, the little G4 that couldn’t. I was amazed by the Cube when it was first released, and I still think it is a beautiful machine with a role as a niche product. But in its goal to expand its user base through new models and retail locations, Apple cannot afford to cater to a niche market. It costs money to maintain a product line and sometimes it is better just to suck up the development costs and kill a slow product than to let it go on draining the treasury.
