Accelerate Your Mac! referred me to this report from InQuest Market Research “Notebook Graphics Accelerators: Part Deux” which compared the ATI Mobility Radeon vs. GeForce4 Go. The article focuses on the video subsystems in PC notebooks but it still offers insight into the future to PowerBook video. The Rev. b (550 and 667 MHz) PowerBook G4s use the ATi Radeon Mobility (AGP 4X, 16MB DDR RAM) chipset while the iBook Dual USB uses the ATi RAGE Mobility 128 (AGP 2X, 8MB SDRAM). The two PowerBooks are some of the last Macs to keep ATi video over Apple’s new flame, nVIDIA.
If you are having problems with your Airport Base Station (ABS) version 1 (the Graphite colored one) do yourself a favor and read Chris Breen’s article on the topic. He talks about Apple’s willingness to be flexible with replacing out of warranty ABS1’s that fail. Click on the article headline (or “read more..” below) to find out what happened to Lando’s ABS1.
