Yesterday I wandered into my local office depot to look at desks. While I was there I decided to see if they carried a laptop safe screen cleaner. To my surprise they did. For about US$6 they have a kit, which contains swabs, five cleaning cloths and five polishing cloths. Why is this news worthy? Have you ever called a Mac retailer to ask for screen cleaner? Most don?t carry it, and when I went to Comp USA no luck there either.
When I looked online I found out that the only manufacturer that Apple recommends Klear Screen and they want US$5.95 (plus shipping and handling) for one cleaning packet and one polishing packet, the “power kit” will set you back US $29.95. US$6 is a bit of a rip off for a one time use product. Retailers must know it because no one carries them.
As far as I can tell the Office Depot brand is made by Klear Screen, and it works beautifully. If you have taken any type of paper towel to your laptop screen you know how damaging it can be.
What do you use to clean your PowerBook’s screen? (And no, the “thumb zamboni” technique does not count…)
