In the latest round of leaked images, a new series of iPhone 7 camera components show a new dual-camera that will be exclusive to the 5.5 inch iPhone 7 Plus screen size. There appears to be about a one centimeter gap between the two inner cameras enclosed in a pill-shape protruding component.
The smaller 4.7 inch iPhone 7 will also receive a camera upgrade, according to these leaks. The hole is substantially larger and the entire component has been aligned closer to the corner of the device, indicating some kind of upgrade.
An blog posted over on Adam Leventhal’s blog and picked up by the mighty Ars Technica describes a talk about the new Apple Filing System given during a Q&A session over at WWDC. During the session, Dominic Giampaolo and Eric Tamura, two members of the APFS team, gave an overview to a packed room, wherein, with the help of other team members, they patiently answered questions about the upcoming file architecture.
Apple may opt for micro-LED displays come the second half of 2017.
Sources within the supply chain have suggested that that the much-rumored Apple Watch 2 lineup expected to debut in the second half of 2016 will continue to have OLED displays, with the move towards micro-LED panels liking occurring in tandem with the tentatively named Apple Watch 3.
Micro-LED displays can be thinner and lighter and allow for improved color gamut, increased brightness, and higher resolutions. The panels do not require backlighting like traditional LCD displays, but they can be difficult and expensive to mass produce. Micro LEDs range in size from 1-micron to 100-micron.
Well, Apple’s current-gem Thunderbolt Display if officially off the menu.
In a statement, an Apple spokesperson explained that the Thunderbolt Display will be available from Apple’s Online Store and in retail locations while supplies last, but once stock has run out, it will not be replenished. Apple also noted that a variety of third-party options are available for Mac users:
“We’re discontinuing the Apple Thunderbolt Display. It will be available through Apple.com, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers while supplies last. There are a number of great third-party options available for Mac users,” said an Apple spokesperson.
The iPhone 7 rumors are coming in at full force following WWDC and an unconfirmed leak from a Chinese web site shows alleged iPhone 7 pricing that has a new 256GB model will almost retain pricing of the current top of the line 128GB model.
A new 256GB model would replace the current 128GB as the top of the line as well as live up to previous rumors of Apple seeking a higher storage capacity. The rumored pricing below is allegedly showing a lineup that would include 32GB, 64GB, and 265GB models for the iPhone 7 and 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB models for the iPhone 7 Plus and a new iPhone Pro line.
According to users who’ve been testing the iOS 10 beta, Apple apparently left the operating system’s kernel unencrypted. Apple confirmed this on Wednesday, citing that the move was performed to streamline system performance.
An Apple spokesperson stated that because iOS 10’s kernel cache does not contain sensitive information, it does not need to be encrypted.
This is kind of nifty, even if Evernote beat Dropbox to it.
Dropbox now features a built-in document scanner capable of capturing photos, notes, sketches and converting them into documents that can be stored in Dropbox.
Like many iOS-based scanning apps, Dropbox’s scanning tool will automatically detect the outline of the item being scanned and it offers editing tools for straightening, adjusting contrast, adding additional pages, and converting to black and white. Dropbox for Business users have additional scanning features at their disposal, including optical character recognition to convert scans into searchable text.
It’s not the most complicated fix in the world, but apparently Mark Zuckerberg stands by it.
The Facebook CEO, who has apparently had more than $16 million on security spent on him for protection from “specific threats” and has hired 16 bodyguards to protect him at home, shared an image on Facebook celebrating Instagram’s 500 million monthly user milestone in which the camera and microphone of a MacBook Pro in the background are covered with taps. While some tried to argue that it wasn’t Zuckerberg’s desk, it’s been seen in a variety of other images of Zuckerberg and in various live streams, so it seems like a safe assumption.
This year’s iPhone probably won’t feature a radical redesign save for the removal of the headphone jack.
Still, the dramatic changes may come next year.
A new report states that the 2017 2017 iPhone will be dramatically different, featuring an OLED display like the Apple Watch and embedding the Touch ID sensor in the display while losing the Home button…
