C|Net’s News.Com reports that Palm Computing has announced that it will integrate support for Adobe’s Portable Document Format (PDF) into the PalmOS. The hardware requirements to read these files as well as a timeline for the integration of PDF support into the PalmOS have not yet been announced. By supporting the PDF, Palm hopes to position itself as a major player in the developing e-book market.
PDF files have gained popularity over the past few years as an easy way to distribute documents across a variety of computer platforms while retaining complex document formatting. It is also interesting to note that PDF will be the default graphics format for Apple’s upcoming MacOS X.
