Pictures of Handspring Treo 270 Leaked

Treo 270PDAlive.com is reporting that pictures of Handspring’s forthcoming color Treo 270 smartphone have been leaked on the FCC Web site. The US$600 Treo 270 is listed as “Coming mid 2002” on the Handspring Web site.

According to the Treo 270 manual posted on the FCC’s Web site, the color Treo unit will have a battery life of approximately 3 hours of talk time or 150 hours of standby time with 1 week of normal usage in handheld mode when wireless mode is off. Pretty amazing for a color unit to have the same amount of battery life as that of its monochrome counterpart.

Also drawing reference from the manual, the keyboard area on the color Treo would be illuminated when backlight is turned on a feature that was not on the Treo 180g.

For my money smartphones suffer from one fatal flaw: they are too small to be PDAs and they are too large to be phones. What is your take on the current raft of Palm OS-based smartphones from Kyocera (QCP 6035), Samsung Electronics (SPH-I300), and Handspring (Treo 180g)?
