Rumor: Apple to bring Force Touch components, other new features to next-gen iPhone

Apple may be bringing its Force Touch technology to the next generation of iPhones along with other changes.

A recent source has indicated that Apple partner TPK could be the sole supplier of force sensing components for the iPhone 6S Plus and Apple Watch. If true, it’s estimated that the parts could increase the cost of the 6s Plus by US$13 to US$14, compared to the US$4 to US$5 it is believed to cost for each Apple Watch.

Such a move would follow Apple’s current practice of integrating more advanced technology in the larger iPhone. The iPhone 6 Plus boasts an optically-stabilized camera, an option that the smaller iPhone 6 lacks.

Other changes that have been rumored for a next-gen iPhone include the addition of the Apple Sim, up upgrade to an A9 processor that’s being fabricated by Samsung and an upgrade to 2 GB of RAM. The current 8 megapixel camera is rumored to stay around for the next generation.

Apple is also rumored to be updating it “C” line, continuing the 4-inch form factor by outfitting the unit with internals found in the iPhone 5s phone. These would also include an NFC chip to allow for Apple Pay functionality as well as a Touch ID sensor.

Only time will tell how much of this is true, but stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
