Rumor: Next-gen Apple TV remote to feature motion sensors, features targeted at casual gamers

appletv_2ndgen

It’s an interesting rumor.

And there’s a decent chance it might be true.

According to recent reports, the next-gen Apple TV will feature an A8 processor, a native SDK for creating apps and a motion sensitive remote control with multi-axis sensors, complete with a touchpad on the top, physical buttons on the bottom and a microphone for Siri.

The remote control is thought to be likely to target casual gamers and the current thought is that a game controller with a microphone, physical buttons, touchpad and motion-sensitive controls could do this.

Such a device, combined with Apple’s purported upcoming streaming service and home automation, could dominate the living room.

These changes, if implemented, could also bring the Apple TV out of the shadows, no longer making it a “hobby” product.

Apple is expected to announce the new Apple TV at its September 9th media event.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
