Say Goodbye to the Apple TIL

Adding to a day of sad announcements, Apple is taking their wildly popular and useful Technical Information Library, affectionately called TIL, offline at the close of business today.

Go2Mac sources tell me that traffic will be shifted over to the newer Knowledge Base (a.k.a. KBase, yuk!) effective immediately. KBase was developed by Kanisa and requires you to register to use it.

KBase registration requires you to divulge your first and last name, street address, city, state, zip, email and defaults to “stay informed,” translation SPAM=ON. Double yuk.

No reason was given for the move to the new technical support tool and it was working intermittently at press time. Hopefully they will import all of the historical articles from the “old” TIL (a task that is not as easy as one would think, trust me 🙂 and add some functionality.

You may want to register before the stampede at 5 pm PST today. Ready, Go!
