If you are trying to set up broadband with your Airport Base Station (ABS) just go to the KBase and search using any combination of the following keywords: DSL, PPOE and AIRPORT.
PPPoE = PPP over Ethernet. DSL connects from the modem to your computer via Ethernet. KBase article #106747 (Mac OS X: Troubleshooting a PPPoE Internet Connection”) provides assistance with settings. Also, make sure to get the big picture. The following components need to be checked:
- Check modem cables
- Reset/power cycle modem hardware
- Check indicator lights on modem
- Check System Preferences settings
- TCP/IP: Configure “Using PPP”
- PPPoE: Check “Connect using PPPoe” and enter username/password
- Internet Connect (click “Connect” to get online)
Get the connection working first before trying the AirPort. My local DSL provider (Verizon) was unable to provide information on connecting using Mac OS X. They recommended that I call Apple who directed me to the above URLs. It took me less than 30 minutes to connect the first time (and 3 seconds every time thereafter 🙂 I found out that I don?t even need to use the Verizon connect software. Instead, I just connect using the Internet Connect application.
Adding the Airport Base Station 2 (white) was easy. Simply follow the instructions that come with the unit: plug in the power, wait 30 seconds, then plug the Ethernet cable from your DSL modem to the WAN port on the AirPort Base Station for direct DSL and LAN port on the AirPort Base Station for an office network. Choose “Connect” from “Internet Connect” drop down top right menu bar item. In fact, both the Ethernet <-> and Airport (looks like a pizza slice of a black and white rainbow) icons in the menu bar are very useful for quickly getting online.
