Sony introduced the Walkman MS (Memory Stick) in Japan early last week. The NW-MS7 [Japanese only] will go on sale 21 December for JPY45,000 (~US$428) with an initial production of 20,000 units.
The unit weighs 69 grams (about 2.5 ounches) with the Lithium Ion battery and memory stick. You can play 80 minutes of music on a 64MB stick using the ATRAC3 (Adaptive Transform Acoustic Code 3) compression scheme. The only problem with the Memory Stick is that it is yet another media format we have to buy, I wish they would have used something more standardized like Smart Media. Remember the Betamax?
