Star Wars Trilogy Available on VCD

CoolVCD is now selling the Star Wars Trilogy in the Video CD-ROM (VCD) format for US$28.88. VCDs allow you to watch a movie with reasonable quality without the need to have a DVD-ROM drive. You will however need a Mac VCD application, like FreeVCD, MacVCD, or SimpleVCD to view the titles.

Boxed set of the Trilogy: “Star Wars: A New Hope,” “The Empire Strikes Back,” “and “Return of the Jedi” all Digitally mastered.

?The 2000 release includes ten minutes behind the scenes interviews with George Lucas, Anthony Daniels, and new cast members and production crew about the upcoming Episode Two film from STAR WARS EPISODE II, in addition to the 1997 Special Edition versions of each of the movies.?

To view a VCD title on a Mac:

Insert the VCD into your CD-ROM drive, you’ll see an “Untitled” CD icon on the desktop containing a number of folders. In the MPEGAV folder, there are files named MUSICxx.DAT–these are the movie files. Don’t double click them but instead select them within a player application.
