On Tuesday, Google released version 29.0.1547.57 of its Chrome web browser. The update, a 51.5 megabyte download, adds the following fixes and changes:
- Improved Omnibox suggestions based on the recency of sites you have visited.

- Ability to reset your profile back to its original state.

- Many new apps and extensions APIs.

Lots of stability and performance improvements:
- Incomplete path sanitization in file handling.

- Information leak via overly broad permissions on shared memory files.

- Integer overflow in ANGLE.

- Use after free in XSLT.

- Use after free in media element.

- Use after free in document parsing.

- Various fixes from internal audits, fuzzing and other initiatives.

On Friday, Mozilla.org released version 23.0.1 of its Firefox web browser. The new version, a 44.4 megabyte download via MacUpdate, adds the following fixes and changes:
- [Fixed] Spellchecking broken with non-ASCII characters in profile path.

- [Fixed] Audio static/”burble”/breakup in Firefox to Firefox WebRTC calls.

Apple releases iTunes 11.0.5 update

You can’t really argue against a substantial iTunes bug fix.

Late Friday, Apple released version 11.0.5 of its iTunes multimedia/jukebox application. The new version, a 196.6 megabyte download, adds the following fixes and changes:

- Corrected an issue with iTunes in the Cloud, where some purchases may download or play unexpected items.

iTunes 11.0.5 requires an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later to install and run.

Adobe releases Flash Player 11.8.800.146 beta

When in doubt, there’s always the public beta to make things a bit better.

On Thursday, Adobe released Flash Player 11.8.800.115 for Mac OS X, an 18 megabyte download via MacUpdate. The new version adds the following fixes and changes:

- Includes new features as well as enhancements and bug fixes related to security, stability, performance, and device compatibility.

The Adobe Flash Player 11.8.800.146 beta requires an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.6 or later to install and run.

Apple releases Epson printer drivers 2.15 for Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7, 10.8 operating systems

Never knock updated printer drivers, as they are your friend.

On Friday, Apple released its Epson Printers Drivers 2.15 package. The update, a 1.2 gigabyte download, adds updated drivers for assorted Epson printers, scanners and multifunction devices.

The update requires an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.6 or later and can also be located, snagged and installed via Mac OS X’s Software Update feature.

On Friday, version 6.7.59.373 of the Skype VoIP application was released. The new version, a 40 megabyte download, offers the following fixes and changes:

Improved:
- Search in Skype for Mac has been completely overhauled. Finding the right conversation is now faster than ever. From the toolbar, just enter a term in the search field and it will return a menu of the most relevant conversations. From the same menu, you can also use the Search Messages action item to explore your complete conversation history. Just double-click on a message to jump directly to it. Finally, adding a contact and calling phone numbers straight from search is more discoverable and easier than ever.

Resolved Issues:
- [Calling] Skype hangs when closing application during an active call.

- [Calling] Cannot hang up call with Shift+Command+H after Skype restarts.

- [Conversations] Messages sent to a Facebook contact show up multiple times.

Known Issues:

On Tuesday, Mozilla.org released version 23.0 of its Firefox web browser. The new version, a 44.3 megabyte download via MacUpdate, adds the following fixes and changes:

The Opera web browser project begins.

On Wednesday, Opera Software released version 15.0.1147.147 of its web browser. The new version, a 54.4 megabyte download via MacUpdate, boasts the following fixes and changes:

General and User-Interface Changes:
- Opera 15 is a major reinvention for Opera. Going forward, the browser’s source code will be based on Chromium and Blink, a fork of the WebKit rendering engine.

- New rendering engine based on WebKit.

- New user interface.

New features:
- Improved site compatibility.

- Silent auto updates

New features:
- Combined address and search bar. Opera 15 combines the address and search bar, allowing for multiple predictive results that can be filtered by search engine. This bar includes options for adding current pages to Opera’s Speed Dial or Stash, and expandable page information.

- Enhanced Speed Dial. Opera 15 allows you to combine Speed Dial entries into groups, and introduces a search function that filters through entries.

- Stash. Opera 15 introduces Stash – a feature that records the location, meta data, and a screenshot of a page. It places this information into a collapsable list entry on the browser’s Start Page, that can be searched by keyword and/or scanned visually by screenshot.

- Discover. A recommender service is included with Opera 15. Discover displays news and topical content that can be filtered by category or location/language.
