Google Chrome, Google’s new web browser, just reached version 18.0.1025.142 for the Mac. The new version, a 35.4 megabyte download, offers the following changes:

- Sped up graphics and drawing performance for users on capable hardware, and enabled fancier 3D content for other users on older computers.

Google Chrome 18.0.1025.142 requires an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.5 or later to install and run.

Apple releases iTunes 10.6.1 update

On Wednesday, Apple released version 10.6.1 of its iTunes multimedia/jukebox application. The new version, a 64.9 megabyte download, adds the following fixes and changes:

- Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view, and syncing photos to devices.

- Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.

- Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.

- Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

iTunes 10.6.1 requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later to install and run.

Flip4Mac updated to 2.4.2.4

Early Wednesday, software developer Telestream has released version 2.4.2.4 of Flip4Mac, its QuickTime components package which allows for Windows Media files to be viewed, imported and converted under Mac OS X. The new release, a 25.2 megabyte download, includes the following fixes and changes:

- Fixed possible crashing and display issues in the browser plugin.

- Numerous fixes in the licensing engine to deal with closed networks and new installations under Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.

Flip4Mac 2.4.2.4 is available for free but can go as high as US$179 depending on the version purchased. The new version requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later to install and run.

Roxio Toast Titanium 11.0.5 update released

Late Thursday, Roxio released version 11.0.4 of its Toast Titanium authoring software. The new version, available as a 380 megabyte download here, adds the following fixes and changes:

- Added video export profiles for iPad (third generation), AppleTV (third generation) and PS Vita

- Toast will now correctly growl with support for Growl 1.3.x from Mac App Store.

- Resolved issue where malformed MP4 file may cause Toast to crash.

- Resolved issue where malformed video files may cause Video Player to crash.

- Setting audio crossfades in spanned disc projects should no longer cause a crash.

- Users who enjoy scrolling up and down will once again enjoy using the AVCHD Media Browser.

- Cosmetic issue where “Pause” and “Resume” buttons did not update has been fixed.

- Resolved graphics alignment issue when authenticating to Facebook.

- Attempting to authenticate to Vimeo with an unverified account will remind you to check verify your email address.

- Open QuickTime Player option when converting audio now opens QuickTime instead of iTunes.

- Length of video is now correctly displayed in the main window when working with DVD-Video sources.

- Video_TS Folder and Compilation projects will now correctly include DVD-ROM content.

- Photos rotated using iPhoto should now be correctly rotated in Toast Media Browser
Resolves error that may occur when writing Lead-Out track on DVD+R DL media under Lion.

- Image File based projects now correctly allow you to replace the first image you added to the project with a new image.

- Audio durations will in spanned Audio CD projects will now be correctly updated in the main window.

- Resolved cosmetic issue where the volume name of an image file may not display correctly.

- Skipping forward and seeking through ASF video files should now work correctly in Video Player.

- Resolved issues with window focus when using Quick Look preview on Web Video content.

Toast Titanium 11 requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later to install and run and retails for US$99.99.

CrossOver, the popular emulation program from CodeWeavers, has been updated to version 11.0.2. The new version, which is available as a demo, offers the following fixes and changes:

- This is a bug-fix release which resolves an issue whereby 11.0.1 would fail to register correctly for many users. If you have experienced an issue where CrossOver registration fails despite the fact that you believe your support contract is still enabled, this version may address your problem.

CrossOver, the popular emulation program from CodeWeavers, has been updated to version 11.0.1. The new version, which is available as a demo, offers the following fixes and changes:

- If you have registered CrossOver for ‘All users’ on your computer and CrossOver erroneously states that it is expired, even though you have registered it, please install this update to fix this issue.

- Fix to registration: registration would fail for users who selected ‘Register for all users of this computer’ … single-user registration would work as expected, but computer-wide registration, while appearing to work, would fail to register and CrossOver would expire after the demo period.

- Fix for Vocaloid 3.

- Fix for PerfectWorld Skills / Icons.

- Translation updates (including Russian translation of CrossOver).

Google releases Picasa 3.9.5.573 update

Late Thursday, software giant Google released Picasa 3.9.5.573, the latest version of its photo organization program for the Mac. Once installed, Picasa imports (without moving or copying) photos from the iPhoto library as well as other folders and external hard drives on your Mac. The program also includes assorted editing tools for straightening, text generation, red eye removal, collage creation and Photoshop-like effects and adjustments. The new version, a 33.1 megabyte download, offers the following fixes and changes:

- Fixed various crashes based on crash reports.

Picasa 3.9.5.573 requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later to install and run.

Mozilla releases Firefox 11.0 update

Late Tuesday, Mozilla.org released version 11.0 of its Firefox web browser. The new version, a 32 megabyte download and adds the following fixes and changes:

- NEW – Firefox can now migrate your bookmarks, history, and cookies from Google Chrome.

- NEW – With Sync enabled, add-ons can now be synchronized across your computers.

- NEW – The CSS text-size-adjust property is now supported.

- HTML5 – The outerHTML property is now supported on HTML elements.

Late Tuesday, Apple released version 3.2.3 of Aperture, its pro-grade image editing application. The new version, a 635 megabyte download, offers the following fixes and changes:

- Photos can now be deleted from Photo Stream

- Addresses minor issues related to performance and stability.
