Rumor: Apple to launch fourth-gen Apple TV, updated App Store this fall

We’ve been around this rumor before, but it seems to be picking up steam again.

A new report says that a fourth-generation Apple TV, App Store and all the trimmings will arrive in September. The new Apple TV will be unveiled along with the latest iPhones, and sport Apple’s A8 chip along with a slimmer look.

The new Apple TV will reportedly feature a control with a touchpad input, and feature Siri on board.


Apple releases third public beta of OS X El Capitan operating system

If you’re feeling brave of heart, the new public beta of OS X El Capitan has been released and is ready for you to download and play with.

Apple on Wednesday seeded the third beta of OS X El Capitan to public beta testers, one week after seeding the second beta and just under three weeks after first providing the OS X El Capitan beta to the public for testing purposes.

The third public beta, which features no outward-facing changes, is thought to be an under-the-hood update with bug fixes and performance improvements.


Apple releases FaceTime Camera Driver Update for all 2015 notebooks

It’s not a huge update, but if could help out if the camera on your new 2015 Apple notebook is being a bit weird.

On Wednesday, Apple has released a FaceTime Camera Driver Update for all 2015 MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro notebooks that improves FaceTime camera compatibility with Windows.

Apple Pay now supports HSBC, First Direct banks in UK

Apple Pay has just hit the “international” category.

Apple updated its Apple Pay web site, announcing support for both UK banks HSBC and First Direct. Both banks were announced as starting partners for the UK branch of Apple Pay, but were delayed until late July at the last minute.


Rumor: Supply chain evidence of purported “iPhone 6c” disappears, device not likely to debut this fall

The “iPhone 6c” may never come to pass.

A new industry report from Cowen and Company analyst Timothy Arcuri, revealed in a recent note to investors that he can no longer find evidence that Apple is working on such a device for 2015.

The note has Arcuri nixing the idea of the smaller handset so as not to cannibalize sales of refreshed 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models widely expected to launch this fall.


Apple Watch to become available in select Best Buy locations come August 7th

Come August 7th, you’ll be able to snag an Apple Watch at certain local Best Buy locations.

Best Buy announced on Sunday that Apple will be making Apple Watch available at more than 100 Best Buy stores in the U.S. on Aug. 7, making it the first major outlet to carry Watch outside of Apple’s own stores.

Best Buy will start stocking Watch through its online store and at select locations, with plans to expand to over 300 outlet before the lucrative holiday shopping season. Since launching in April, Apple has limited sales to its own online and brick-and-mortar outlets, international pop-up shops and a few token third-party boutiques.


Rumor: Apple to introduce notebooks with Intel’s next-generation Skylake processors in Q4 2015

There’s some cool stuff to be had in Intel’s upcoming Skylake processor family.

A leaked article that hit prior to the Gamescom trade show in Germany shows that the processors are expected to offer a 10 to 20 percent CPU performance boost in single and multi-threaded applications, with lower power consumption, and 30 percent faster Intel HD integrated graphics performance on average compared to current-generation Broadwell processors. The improved energy efficiency will also result in up to 30 percent longer battery life.


Purported iPhone 6s front panel image leaked, handset set to be in production

If you were wondering what a purported image of the new front panel to the next-gen iPhone might look like, it goes a bit like this:


According to French web site Nowhereelse.fr, the front panel image was shared by a source close to the story who also said that the iPhone parts are currently in production and ready to be shipped to iPhone 6s assembly lines for use in the Silver and Gold iPhone 6s.


Patent application shows possible Apple TV remote with built-in Touch ID sensor

Apple may not have released its anticipated next-gen Apple TV console at the Worldwide Developers Conference, but it appears that the company is still working on one.

A recently published patent shows an Apple TV remote with a built-in Touch ID sensor.

As is often the case, the patent is expressed in extremely broad terms, referring to a “sensor configured to detect a biometric characteristic of a user” and mentioning everything from iris detection to voice sensing, but a fingerprint is included and appears to be what is shown in the main drawing.


Apple adds 35 new issuers in the United States, brings total to over 375

The new batch of participating issuers, banks, credit unions and financial institutions that support Apple Pay is in.

35 of them, no less, bringing the total in the U.S. to over 375 with plans for dozens more.
