It doesn’t make the news every day, but it’s a useful app to have on hand.

Paragon Software’s NTFS, which allows full OS X read and write access to NTFS volumes, has just hit version 14.

The new version introduces new volume management functions for NTFS volumes, and it supports all versions of NTFS. Paragon has no limit for the file or partition sizes it can handle, and the software supports NTFS functions such as resource forks, reading and writing hardlinks, symlinks, and file permissions.

This is why bug fixes exist.

An increasing number of reports have surfaced stating that iPhones running iOS 9.1 are experiencing Touch ID problems wherein Touch ID has become slow or unreliable.

The complaints are similar: users running iOS 9.1 find Touch ID either refuses to recognise a user’s fingerprint, has become highly unreliable or doesn’t even register a fingerprint pressed against it. Users have tried hard resets (holding in the power and home button for 10 seconds) and complete factory resets without any success.

ThinkDev’s QuickShot was nifty and version 2.0.1 might be niftier still.

Per developer comments, the company has added the following new bells and whistles to its screenshot and image management application for OS X:

We’ve got a lot of feedback from users who liked our app, but simply wanted it to do more. So, with this release we’re introducing a boatload of new features. To start, QuickShot now has multiple folder support, so you can load images from any folder you want and switch between them right in your menubar. Along with that, we’ve now added custom filters, search, sorting options, and themes to make QuickShot even more customizable.

With any luck, this nipped the Facebook app’s battery drain issue.

Facebook on Thursday released a new version that it states will fix a major battery draining bug that some Facebook users have been experiencing in recent weeks. Affected users were seeing large amounts of battery drain on their iPhones due to Facebook running in the background, something that happened even when background app refresh was toggled off in the Settings app.

While the app’s release note don’t specifically reference the issue, Facebook engineering manager Ari Grant wrote a post explaining the issues behind the battery drain and what Facebook has done to fix it. According to Grant, there were several factors that contributed to the problem, including a “CPU spin” in the network code and silent background audio sessions that kept the app awake even when it wasn’t open.

Some users report email-based issues after iOS 9 update

A bug fix may be in order.

Since its release on September 16th, a number of iOS 9 users have reported having trouble opening emails with attachments. There’s currently a 22 page thread on the Apple discussion forums covering the issue, which currently has more than 200 replies from users who are all experiencing the same problem.

The issues, which cover a wide range of devices, often report a “Message not yet downloaded from server” error whenever they attempt to open an email message with an attachment. The problem appears to be affecting Apple customers who have POP email accounts and is causing issues with both new and old emails.

Deleting email accounts and adding them back in does not fix the issue, but downloading an alternate email program from the App Store seems to have worked for many users as a temporary fix. Turning off Wi-Fi also allows some users to read their previously downloaded emails and access attachments, but images are not viewable.
