Rumor: Apple to include wireless charging feature in iPhone 7

Because, hey, wireless charging is pretty darn cool.

The current batch of rumors regarding Apple’s next-gen iPhone/the iPhone 7 includes a wireless charging feature as well as a thinner, waterproof body and no headphone jack.

The rumor hails from within Apple’s supply chain and an anonymous source has stated that the iPhone 7 will not include a headphone jack in an effort to make the device even thinner than the iPhone 6s. The device will also “very likely” be waterproof and support some form of wireless charging.

Jeff Williams promoted to Apple Chief Operations Officer

The position that Apple CEO Tim Cook once held has been filled.

On December 17th, Apple announced that Jeff Williams was named the new Chief Operating Officer.

Williams joined Apple in 1998 as head of worldwide procurement and in 2004 he was named vice president of Operations. Since 2010 he has overseen Appleā€™s entire supply chain, service and support, and the social responsibility initiatives.

Rumor: iPhone 7 to feature 3D Touch, repositioned LCD flex cables

It looks like the iPhone 7 will feature a 3D Touch component as well as relocated LCD flex cables within its frame.

Taiwanese web site Apple.club.tw has leaked images of what are thought to be the 3D Touch chip and flex cables, the images also suggesting the backlight assembly is designed for larger than a 4-inch display.

Fiat Chrysler announces CarPlay support for assorted Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler models later this year

A certain number of Fiat Chrysler models, including Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler models, will arrive will Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto support this year.

And that’s a nifty thing.

The automaker announced on Monday that a certain group of the three brands would feature CarPlay and Android Auto support, but didn’t say which exact models would gain the support in its official announcement. CarPlay will bridge with the company’s proprietary Uconnect dash system, which is also being upgraded with things like faster startup times, more responsive touchscreens, and better overall performance.

Rumor: Apple to remove headphone jack from next-gen iPhone, will opt for Lightning connection

Your next iPhone may not have a headphone jack at all.

The current rumor going through the supply chain is that Apple plans to remove the classic 3.5mm headphone jack from the iPhone 7 in favor of an all-in-one Lightning connector for both connectivity and audio output.

Multiple web sites, citing anonymous sources from within the suppliers, have stated that the unit will be without the headphone jack and that Apple is working on its own wireless Bluetooth headphones.

Rumor: iPhone 7 Plus model to feature 256 GB of storage, 3,100 mAh battery

The rumor mill is offering some neat options for the iPhone 7 Plus upon its release.

A current report states that the upcoming handset may feature a 256GB storage option and larger 3,100 mAh battery as two differentiating features over the smaller iPhone 7.

The report does not specify if the iPhone 7 Plus will still have 16GB base storage, or if Apple will opt for larger storage options such as 32GB, 128GB and 256GB, compared to the iPhone 6s Plus lineup of 16GB, 64GB and 128GB models.

There might be a smaller version of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus en route.

Apple’s so-called “iPhone 6c” is rumored to have a 1,642 mAh battery, slightly larger than the iPhone 5s battery’s 1,570 mAh capacity, according to sources.

The report cited “insider Foxconn employees” and also corroborates multiple rumors claiming the 4-inch iPhone will feature an A9 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB base storage, Touch ID and the same 2.5d curved glass used on the iPhone 6 and later.

Rumor: Apple said to be “close to agreement” with OLED suppliers for next-gen iPhones

The rumor mill is acting up with new claims that next-gen iPhones will switch over to OLED displays.

The current word around the camp fire is that LG and Samsung Display are close to a final agreement with Apple for the screens, adding the two Korean firms plan a combined 15 trillion won ($12.8 billion) in capital expenditure to build up OLED production capacity over the next two to three years.

Last month’s claims stated that Apple planned to switch over to OLED screens for the iPhone beginning in 2018, a move that suggests that Apple would stick with LCD units for the iPhone 7 model.

If this is true, it could definitely help where your next-gen iPhone is concerned.

A new rumor has it that Catcher Technologies will help supply chassis components for upcoming iPhones said to be both waterproof and use “new compound materials” to conceal their antennas, according to a new rumor.

Catcher is said to be likely to supply 30 to 50 percent chassis shipments for the new hardware, thereby placing the company as Apple’s largest chassis partner.

Pay Finders app uses crowd sourcing, allows users to find more than 12,000 Apple Pay vendors in the U.S.

This could be pretty useful.

Brian Roemmele’s PayFinder app works via crowdsourcing to report over 12,000 merchants in North America that accept Apple Pay, 95 percent of them being small businesses. In parallel, its developer reported that the new app’s users have increased an incredible 750 percent over the past two days, indicating a lot of interest in Apple Pay.
