Apple may not have done much with its iPod shuffle and nano models outside of changing the color offerings, but it beefed up the iPod touch in a big way this week.

The iPod touch’s camera is now on par with the iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2, going from 5 megapixels in the last generation to 8 in the new version. Apple also incorporated an iPhone M8 motion coprocessor for better activity-tracking and a new 64-bit A8 chip to make the unit that much faster. A new 1136 x 640 resolution Retina display rounds things out and makes the device that much more robust.

Users express concern over watchOS downgrade issues, repair costs for downgrading

Upgrading software is easy.

It’s downgrading that’s the hard part.

A number of deleted posts from Apple’s support forums and active discussions elsewhere online highlight a growing concern for Apple Watch users; specifically, the inability to downgrade from a newer version of watchOS to an older version. The issue, which first became apparent when users discovered that watchOS 1.0.1’s heart rate monitoring was less frequent than in watchOS 1.0, is that the Apple Watch apparently lacks a user-accessible recovery or DFU (device firmware update) mode. While there has been a spike in downgrade-related complaints since Apple released the beta version of watchOS 2 on Monday, the issue remains a concern for some watchOS 1.0.1 users.

If there was one Indiegogo worth getting behind, it’d be this one.

The App Camp for Girls 3.0 fundraiser has launched and is looking to raise US$100,000 to finance this year’s App Camp for Girls programs. The fundraiser works to address the larger issue of why only 20 percent of software engineers are female and why that percentage is even lower among mobile app developers.

The same is true of technology classes in schools, wherein there are few opportunities for girls to explore high-tech fields that aren’t already dominated by males.

App Camp 3.0 will launch an additional location, this time in Vancouver, British Columbia.
